Throw the Bums Out 5 Feb 2012 Kids need to be outside, and with the likes of Richard Louv inspiring the nation, there is a push to fund programs that support outdoor education & getting kids to go play in the woods again.
My current effort is for the Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails, chairing the Community Partners committee. This committee is actively seeking out partners across central and northern New Mexico who offer opportunities for girls to participate in local agriculture and gardening programs. I've also been at the Roundhouse in Santa Fe lobbying for the Children's Outdoor Bill of Rights.
It's very satisfying to work at the local level, and to see results in my community! What can you do in your community? It's easy to get involved. There are kids everywhere in this country who need someone to unplug them and throw them out the door. Try it, they'll like it! Sierra Club Building Bridges to the Outdoors »
